The Chiefs announced the signing of free-agent guard Paul Fanaika, a six-year veteran, to a contract on Thursday.

A source told The Star deal is worth $8.1 million over three years.

Fanaika, 28, is listed at 6 feet 5 and 327 pounds. He started 14 games last season for the Arizona Cardinals, and has also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and Washington.

Fanaika was a seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009, when current Chiefs coach Andy Reid was in charge there.

Fanaika has started 30 of 33 NFL games in his career. He posted a Pro Football Focus grade of negative-20.9 last season, which ranked 71st out of 78 qualifying guards.
