Royals recall infielder Christian Colon, option catcher Tony Cruz to Class AAA Omaha
The Royals recalled infielder Christian Colon on Wednesday, optioning catcher Tony Cruz to Class AAA Omaha.
Colon, 27, has been at Omaha since May 18, the day the club summoned infielder Whit Merrifield to Kansas City during a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox. Before his demotion, Colon was batting .250 with two doubles in 16 games for the Royals this season.
Cruz was added to the roster as insurance after starting catcher Salvador Perez went down with a quadriceps contusion. When Perez returned last weekend in Cleveland, Cruz’s days were numbered.
