Watch NY Mayor Bill de Blasio sing to settle World Series wager with KC Mayor Sly James

Twitter

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has made good on his World Series wager with Kansas City Mayor Sly James by singing “Kansas City” in an adorable video.

Surrounded by American Ballet Theatre dancers (some in Royal blue tops) and wearing a Royals jersey, de Blasio says in the video posted Friday: “I’m the mayor of the greatest city in the world. But right now, I gotta take a trip to Kansas City.”

Then he launches into the Beatles’ (via Little Richard) version of the Leiber and Stoller classic (the cover played at the K when the Royals win), accompanied by a piano and the dancers.

De Blasio teased the video earlier Friday on Twitter. “A bet’s a bet, @MayorSlyJames,” de Blasio tweeted. “Can guarantee one thing: it’s quite #Frosty!”

The video was James’ idea. During the World Series, James issued this challenge to de Blasio: if the Royals win, de Blasio has to go to a ballet school in New York, wear a Royals jersey and sing “Kansas City.” He also suggested that de Blasio send New York cheesecake.

If the Mets had won, James agreed to go to Kansas City Ballet, wear a Mets jersey and sing “New York, New York.” He also said he would send ribs to de Blasio.

Also on Friday, James posted a photo of himself with the cheesecakes.

But at the end of the video, de Blasio seems ready for another challenge: “Congratulations, KC. But wait till next year!”
