Had things been different, Noah Wilson would have celebrated his eighth birthday on Wednesday.

He’d probably be there at the World Series rooting on his Royals.

But even though Noah’s brave battle with cancer ended in his death June 30 at Children’s Mercy Hospital, the Royals made sure he had a seat for Game 2.

Noah’s father Scott Wilson, of Olathe, occupied the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat in Noah’s honor. Mother Deb and Noah’s siblings sat next to Dad.

“It was an incredibly hard journey for Noah...but following the Royals allowed him to enjoy life,” said Deb Wilson. “We feel we're right where we should betonight.”

Noah was 6 when he was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer that put him through an intense regimen of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

The Royals, particularly first baseman Eric Hosmer, last year brought the avid fan under the team’s wing. The club helped promote the Bandage Project, a charity that Noah launched as a cancer patient to provide colorful bandages to hospitalized kids.

This month a software developer introduced an app of Noah’s creation, called Zingity. It offers tips and awards points to young patients who perform acts of kindness during their treatment.
