Royals lose suspended game to White Sox after walk-off hit by Avisail Garcia
After a 39-hour delay, the Royals resumed their game from Friday with the White Sox at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday. A result arrived 20 minutes later when Avisail Garcia’s walk-off single splashed into center field to give Chicago a 3-2 victory.
Garcia notched his hit off reliever Kelvin Herrera with two outs. After breezing through the first two at-bats, Herrera issued a walk to former Royal Melky Cabrera. Cabrera advanced to second with Herrera dropped a wild changeup in the dirt.
Down 2-0 in the count to Jose Abreu, the Royals called for an intentional walk. But two pitches later, Garcia punched a 94-mph fastball to bring Cabrera home.
In the top of the inning, White Sox closer David Robertson collected three strikeouts to keep the Royals off the board.
Danny Duffy started the game for Kansas City and gave up a run across five 1/3 innings. Franklin Morales coughed up a one-run lead in Friday’s seventh inning.
