Royals star reliever Wade Davis carries memory of stepbrother on the mound

Last August — amid a season marked by the upheaval of a trade, a cross-country move and a discouraging stint in the starting rotation — Wade Davis lost the stepbrother he considered his closest friend. Before the Royals converted Davis into their set-up man and he became the American League’s best relief pitcher, he opted to ditch his No. 22 for No. 17, the number Dustin Huguley wore in high school.
