UMKC survives rally by Chicago State, gets first WAC triumph of season
UMKC had to dig out of hole on Saturday and then hit free throws late to cling to a victory.
Martez Harrison scored 24 points for UMKC as the Kangaroos held off Chicago State 64-62 at Municipal Auditorium.
Chicago State, 4-15 overall and 0-2 in the Western Athletic Conference, scored the first 11 points of the game. But the Kangaroos, 6-13 and 1-1, rallied and led 37-23 lead at halftime.
UMKC extended its lead to 17 points in the second half, but Chicago State rallied by scoring 16 points in the final 1 minute, 25 seconds. The Kangaroos held on as Noah Knight made three of four free throws down the stretch.
