UMKC falls 53-51 to Texas-Pan American at buzzer; Roos are No. 2 seed in WAC Tournament

Shaquille Boga scored 26 points, including the winning bucket just ahead of the buzzer, lifting Texas-Pan American to a 53-51 win over UMKC on Saturday.

Boga, who finished 11 of 21 from the field, hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 51 with 1:14 left, then got the rebound after Deshon Taylor’s missed shot at the other end and sank the winning jumper with just 3 seconds to go. He also had five rebounds.

Janari Joesaar contributed 10 points and Shaquille Hines added eight while hauling in 11 rebounds for UTPA (10-20, 4-10 Western Athletic Conference), which trailed most of the game but never let the margin swell beyond six points. The win snapped a three-game skid. Martez Harrison led UMKC (13-18, 8-6) with 16 points and Reese Holliday added 15 points.

The Kangaroos are the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament and will open play at 6:30 p.m. Central time Thursday in a rematch against UTPA, the No. 7 seed. The winner faces either third-seeded Seattle or No. 6 seed Chicago State in a semifinal at 10:30 p.m. Friday.

On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded New Mexico State awaits the Bakersfield-Utah Valley winner in another semifinal. The championship game is 10 p.m. Saturday on ESPNU.
