Missouri is set to hire Arizona State defensive line coach Jackie Shipp for the same position, according to multiple reports.

A Phoenix radio station first reported the news, which has since been confirmed by Sports Illustrated and The Arizona Republic among others reports, Monday evening.

Shipp, 53, replaces Chris Wilson, who was only with first-year Tigers coach Barry Odom for a little more than a month.

Shipp — a native of Stillwater, Okla., and former linebacker at the University of Oklahoma, who is second in Sooner history with 489 tackles — joined the Sun Devils in 2013 after 14 seasons at Oklahoma.

He and new Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel worked together on Bob Stoops’ staff in Norman, Okla.

Shipp helped develop former Oklahoma defensive tackles Tommie Harris, Dusty Dvoracek and Gerald McCoy, among others, and worked with Will Sutton at Arizona State.

Shipp made $266,585 last season with the Sun Devils, according to USA Today’s NCAA football assistant coaches database.

Wilson, who was announced Dec. 21 as Craig Kuligowski’s replacement, was set to make $395,000, according to Mizzou athletics.

Instead, Wilson joined former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson’s staff with the Philadelphia Eagles last week, leaving Odom to search for his second defensive line coach since being hired Dec. 3.

Kuligowski joined Mark Richt’s new staff at the University of Miami, Fla.

Shipp’s started his collegiate coaching career in 1991 at Langston University, a historically black land-grant college in Oklahoma that competes athletically in the NAIA.

He switched to defensive line, where he’s remained during a 25-year coaching career, when he joined Central Missouri’s staff in 1992.

Shipp spent the 1993 season at Tennessee-Martin before three seasons at Southern Illinois (1994-96), one at Northeast Louisiana (1997) and one at Alabama (1998).

When Stoops was hired at Oklahoma in 1999, he lured Shipp back to his alma mater, where he served as defensive line coach through the 2012 season.
