MU notebook: Jakeenan Gant held out because of eligibility review
First half
▪ Key play: Johnathan Williams III made a nice spin move and had the basket to himself, but he missed a dunk.
▪ Key stat: The Tigers went 10 of 30 from the field and had only three assists.
Second half
▪ Key play: Pick any miss from beyond the arc for the Tigers. Missouri shot too many threes and shouldn’t have taken half of them. They went three of 13 from beyond the arc for the game.
▪ Key stat: UMKC point guard Martez Harrison knows how to get to the basket and finish. He scored 26 and went 15 of 16 from the free-throw line.
MU’s Gant out
Missouri freshman forward Jakeenan Gant was ruled out of the Tigers men’s basketball season opener against UMKC on Friday as the school reviews an eligibility issue.
In a statement issued by the university, Missouri said Gant, “has been withheld from competition as a result of a review regarding his eligibility.”
Gant was considered one of the Tigers’ top recruits. He started the exhibition opener against William Jewell with sophomore Johnathan Williams III nursing a knee injury.
The Tigers play again on Sunday at home against Valparaiso.
