The Kansas women’s basketball team is losing its leading scorer. Sophomore guard Lauren Aldridge requested Thursday to transfer to another program, KU coach Brandon Schneider announced Friday.

“I’m disappointed and shocked,” Schneider said in a release.

Aldrige, from Marshfield, Mo., averaged 11.1 points in 31 starts last season for the Jayhawks, who finished 6-25 after losing in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals.

“(This decision) is something that I prayed about and talked through with my family,” Aldridge said in a release. “It wasn’t easy to get to this point, but I am at peace with my decision.”

Aldridge shot 36.6 percent from the field, including a 35.5 percent from three-point range.

“I have tremendous respect for Lauren and her values,” Schneider said, “and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors.”
