Top Kansas recruit Josh Jackson will be in Allen Fieldhouse Saturday

One of Kansas’ biggest recruiting targets in the 2016 class is on campus this weekend.

Josh Jackson, a 6-foot-7 shooting guard, began his official visit Friday. He will spend the weekend in Lawrence and attend the Kansas men’s basketball game against Texas on Saturday afternoon.

Jackson, a native of Detroit, is rated as the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2016 class, according to Rivals.com. He plays his high school basketball at Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif. For the moment, Jackson is considering a list of schools that includes Arizona and Michigan State.

Jackson has loose ties to the state of Kansas. His mother, Apples Jones, grew up in Michigan and played at Allen County Community in Iola, Kan.

It’s the second straight weekend that Kansas has played host to a top-five recruit. Last week, the Jayhawks received an unofficial visit from Michael Porter of Columbia, a 6-foot-9 small forward in the 2017 class.

Kansas coach Bill Self has just one signed player in his 2016 recruiting class — power forward Mitch Lightfoot of Tucson, Ariz. In addition to Jackson, the Jayhawks are targeting a slew of big men, including Texas front-liners Marques Bolden and Jarrett Allen and center Udoka Azubuike, a native of Nigeria who plays high school basketball in Jacksonville, Fla.
