One of the top point guards in the recruiting Class of 2018 has scheduled an official recruiting trip to Kansas.
Devon Dotson, a 6-foot-1 senior from Providence Day High School in Charlotte, N.C., who is ranked No. 35 in the Class of 2018 by Rivals.com, will visit KU on Aug. 25-27, sources confirmed on Wednesday.
Dotson — he averaged 24.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists a game his junior year — has a final list of KU, Florida, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State and USC.
He eliminated Arizona on Tuesday after the Wildcats received a commitment from No. 16-ranked Jahvon Quinerly.
Never miss a local story.
Quinerly, a 6-foot senior from Hudson Catholic High in Hackensack, N.J., had KU on his final list of schools.
There’s been talk that a Dotson commitment might also help KU land No. 3-ranked Zion Williamson, a 6-6 senior forward from Spartanburg (S.C.) Day School. Dotson joined Williamson’s South Carolina Supreme AAU team at the end of July. Williamson, a certain one-and-done college player, has a list of KU, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, South Carolina, Clemson and others.
Here’s ESPN.com’s player profile on Dotson: “Dotson owns elite speed and quickness as his frame is sturdy, strong and dependable to absorb bumps and contact. With his burst off the bounce he applies pressure to a defense as he will push it with straight-line speed at the rim to score or find a teammate with his head up.
“Against a set defense he understands to set up the offense and create scoring opportunities for his teammates. He is quick to hit the open man but also has the IQ to break off a play and create his own opportunity. It’s very difficult to keep him out of the paint as he beats a defense with sheer blow-by speed and also by changing his gears. He is a reliable shooter especially with the pull-up jumper inside the arc. He is a fierce competitor who leads and wins.”
ESPN added: “Dotson can produce big scoring numbers or be a high assist guy which makes him a dual threat. Defensively he has a knack for steals but he must remember his lateral quickness can make him an outstanding on-ball defender. As he continues to play fast and think slowly he will process the game even better. One of the top point guards in the class.”
Dosunmu considering 11
Ayo Dosunmu, a 6-4 senior point guard from Morgan Park High in Chicago, who is ranked No. 22 nationally by Rivals.com, on Wednesday tweeted a list of 11 schools. They are: KU, Illinois, Memphis, Oklahoma State, USC, North Carolina State, Xavier, Creighton, Wake Forest, UConn and New Mexico.
Little drops KU from list
Nassir Little, a 6-6 senior forward from Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep, who is ranked No. 30 in the Class of 2018 by Rivals.com, on Wednesday dropped KU from his list of schools. He tweeted a final five of Duke, Arizona, Miami, North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Langford recently signed a one-year contract worth $2.2 million with the Shenzhen Leopards, a pro team in China.
“This is an opportunity for me to reciprocate the love and support that the community gave to me while I was playing here,” Langford said in a release. The 6-4 guard ranks seventh on KU’s all-time scoring list with 1,812 points during his KU career from 2002-05.
