KU’s Perry Ellis sits against TCU, hopes to play against Baylor
Before Kansas took the floor against TCU on Thursday afternoon, the Jayhawks’ men’s basketball staff ran injured forward Perry Ellis through a short workout at 8 a.m. Kansas coach Bill Self was hopeful that Ellis, sidelined for a week because of a sprained knee, would be able to return to action in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament.
But after speaking to Ellis on Thursday morning, Self decided to give Ellis an extra day to rest. Ellis is expected to be available on Friday against Baylor.
“He felt really good,” Self said after the Jayhawks’ 64-59 victory over TCU. “When I talked to him he said, ‘Coach, I feel really good. I think another day would probably do me some good, but I can play.’
“And I said, “Well, if you think another day would do you some good, then we’re going to wait another day.”
“He said he wanted to play, but when he threw in there, ‘I think another day would help me,’ I made the decision right there, we’re going to play him tomorrow.”
Ellis, the Jayhawks’ leading scorer, suffered the sprained knee last Tuesday in a home victory against West Virginia. He also sat out last Saturday’s loss at Oklahoma.
“I anticipate him trying to do some things tomorrow,” Self said.
