K-State guard Kamau Stokes questionable for KU game
Kansas State point guard Kamau Stokes may not be healthy enough to play when the Wildcats head to Kansas on Wednesday for their next men’s basketball game.
K-State coach Bruce Weber listed Stokes as questionable when asked about his status Monday morning. Stokes, a freshman, injured his right knee against Mississippi on Saturday, exiting the game for good in the first half. Weber said Stokes had a MRI on Sunday and will meet with another doctor Monday for further evaluation.
“He is definitely questionable for Wednesday,” Weber said. “We will just have to wait and see how severe the injury is.”
Weber said Saturday his initial belief was that Stokes suffered a strain or bruise. But he couldn’t confirm that Monday.
He is unsure how long Stokes will be out.
“I don’t know what to say,” Weber said. “I don’t know yet, but I would say he is definitely questionable for Wednesday.”
K-State will miss Stokes if he is unable to play. The Baltimore native has started in 20 of 21 games, averaging 9.9 points and 2.9 assists. He is the team’s top ball-handler and passer, as well as a quality shooter.
On Saturday, backup point guard Carlbe Ervin and swingman Wesley Iwundu shared point guard duties after Stokes left the game. Senior Brian Rohleder is also an option at the position.
