MIAA commissioner Bob Boerigter to retire in January 2017

Bob Boerigter, commissioner of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since 2010, will retire early next year, the conference announced.

The MIAA, based in Kansas City, has expanded in full-time and associate members in Boerigter’s tenure. Teams in the league have won 10 NCAA Division II championships in six different sports including football and men’s basketball.

Boerigter, who had been the athletic director at Northwest Missouri State when he joined the MIAA, has helped attract NCAA championship events to the region and has served on several NCAA committees and task forces.

He will step down on Jan. 31, 2017.

“All of us in the MIAA are deeply grateful for the leadership Dr. Boerigter has provided to our conference and to the entire membership of NCAA Division II,” Central Missouri president Chuck Ambrose said in a release.
