State Championship for Track and Field Sees Area Schools Compete to Finish Season Strong
Wichita State University was the place to be for High School track and field as it played host to the State Championship, bringing High Schools from all over Kansas to compete in the final event of the season.
With schools from all over Kansas showing up, some local schools also went to compete and finish their season strong.
Northern Heights Results
The Wildcats had a very successful weekend in Wichita as the Lady Cats finished in fifth place as a team. They were led by two state winners, Ellei McCrory and Jaitlyn Johnson as they won the 3200-meter run and the discus. McCrory added two more podium finishes in the 1600-meter run with a third-place finish, and as part of the 4x800-meter relay team, she finished second along with Josie Tiffany, Graceann Cathcart, and Laura Cathcart.
Rounding out the day for the Lady Cats, Reese Houck finished on the podium in eighth place in the high jump, Johnson finished 11th in shot put, and Laura Cathcart tacked on another 11th-place finish in the 3200-meter run. On the boys' side, Kelton Bish and Cooper Spade finished 12th in the javelin and 14th in the 3200-meter run.
Chase County Results
The Bulldogs closed the year with a strong showing in the throws, and the Lady Bulldogs used that to finish in 21st place as a team at the State Championship. Madelyn Wilson was the highest placer with a bronze in the shot put. Vonda Danford finished fifth in javelin for the second-highest placing for the Lady Bulldogs. Wilson led the charge in the discus as well with a ninth-place finish. Lynae Rains tacked on an eighth-place finish in the shot put to finish the strong day in the throws for the Lady Bulldogs.
Other finishes include Kiya Cahoone's 12th-place finish in the long jump, Grace Welsh's 14th-place finish in the discus, Danford's 16th-place finish in shot put, and Ava Wilson's 17th-place finish in the long jump. For the boys, Guthrie Danford finished in 12th and 17th place in the shot put and discus to close the year for Chase County in track and field.
Madison Results
The Madison Bulldog boys put together a 13th-place finish in the final event of the season, using their speed on the track. The 4x100-meter relay team and Octavien Dean in the 110-meter hurdles had the highest placings, as both finished fourth in their respective events. Mason McDonald almost had two podium finishes, with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Cruz Leiser added a sixth-place finish in the pole vault to round out the boys' day. On the girls' side, only Molly Daniels had a final placing with a 16th-place in the javelin.
Olpe Results
The Lady Eagles put forth a balanced effort to finish in 18th-place as a team at the final meet of the year. Lillian Skalsky and Reagan Geiger combined for three fifth-place finishes, as Skalsky did that in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs and Geiger did it in the high jump. The 4x800-meter relay team added a seventh-place finish, and Harper Schmidt added a pair of eighth-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Kinley Hines rounded out the day with a 17th-place finish in the 800-meter run.
For the boys, they had four athletes reach the finals, and each of them placed in the top ten to give them a 21st-place finish as a team. Kaleb Arnold had the biggest day with a bronze medal finish in the 800-meter run. The 4x800-meter relay team finished in fourth place to add another podium finish. Kaleb added a final podium with a seventh-place finish in the 1600-meter run, and to round out the event, Isaac Arnold finished tenth in the 3200-meter run.
Lebo Results
The Wolves might not have sent a ton of athletes to the State meet, but the ones they did send were good. For the Lady Wolves, they finished 31st as a team behind three top-15 finishes. The highest of those three finishes was Rachael Barnhardt's bronze medal in the discus. Ally Peak finished in 12th-place in the 800-meter run, and Alexis Hutchinson finished in 14th-place in the high jump.
On the boys' side, it was a similar story except with two athletes. Jett Edwards led with a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash to end his season on the podium, while Jae'Mykel Hall claimed 11th in the triple jump. Those two placements put them in 41st place as a team to finish off the year.
