Eagles Predicted to Trade AJ Brown, But There's a Catch

The trade chatter for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown will only continue to pick up before Monday.

The Eagles were interested in trading Brown before the 2026 NFL Draft, but they were unable to find the type of compensation that would have made sense to trade the wide receiver before the summer. Philadelphia can spread out Brown’s dead cap hit for a post-June 1 trade.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes Brown will be traded next week, though it will come with a catch for the Eagles. Philadelphia wants a first-round pick for the three-time All-Pro. In order for that to happen, the Eagles might be forced to take a Day 1 pick in 2028 instead of 2027.

“I still believe the throughway to satisfying the Eagles' desire for a first-round pick is pushing that return into 2028,” Breer wrote. “Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman has been amenable to such compromises in the past-he took a 2026 third-rounder for Haason Reddick in March 2024-because he has the job security to do so.

“Also, such a compromise was already discussed between the Eagles and a team other than the Patriots a couple of months ago, at which point Philly would've been accepting a pick three drafts away. It's a small difference, but the 2028 first-rounder is now two drafts away, which creates a parallel to what the Jets received for Quinnen Williams.”

The New England Patriots have been heavily linked to Brown this offseason, as he’s familiar with head coach Mike Vrabel during their time together with the Tennessee Titans.

However, with a 2028 first-round pick being on the table, there could be plenty of suitors willing to make a trade. The San Francisco 49ers need help at receiver as they move on from Brandon Aiyuk.

Given the Kansas City Chiefs' annual saga with Rashee Rice, one can’t count them out of the sweepstakes for Brown.
