Blue Jays Announce Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Move After 2 Missed Games

Toronto Blue Jaysfirst basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr. has been dealing with a right elbow injury. The five-time All-Star took a hit during Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Guerrero immediately left the field in visible discomfort after taking the pitch. X-rays later came back negative, but the Blue Jays proceeded carefully, holding him out for two games against the Miami Marlins.

Toronto lost Monday's series opener without Guerrero before bouncing back in dominant fashion to even the series on Tuesday. Blue Jays manager John Schneider said before Tuesday's game that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was "still pretty sore extending" his right elbow, which is why he was kept out of the lineup (via SportsNet's Shi David's).

Schneider added that Guerrero had hit earlier in the day and was feeling "a little better."

On Wednesday, the club announced Guerrero's return to the starting lineup for the series finale against Miami.

It's a significant development for a Blue Jays team still managing multiple injuries across the roster.

The setback interrupted Guerrero's best stretch of the season. Before the injury, he was hitting .400 over his previous four games with four hits and four runs scored as his production at the plate continued trending upward after a slow start to the year.

Overall, Guerrero is batting .287 with a .386 on-base percentage, a .372 slugging percentage, three home runs and 22 RBIs in 2026. His return also comes while catcher Alejandro Kirk continues recovering from thumb surgery and outfielder Addison Barger works through a right elbow injury.

The Blue Jays enter Wednesday's game against Miami at 26-29 and third in the American League East. First pitch at Rogers Centre is scheduled for 3:07 p.m. ET.
