Jim Nantz Admits He'd Score Over 100 At PGA Championship Course
As the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club heads for its final round, CBS asked its staff what they believe they would shoot on the Pennsylvania course.
Alex Smalley currently leads the pack with a 6-under total through the first 54 holes. While a five-way tie for second (Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm, Nick Taylor, Aaron Rai & Matthias Schmid) should make for an entertaining fourth round of play on Sunday.
When asked what he would shoot though, Jim Nantz kept it real. Telling the person behind the camera that he'd be lucky not to break 100 strokes.
Jim Nantz admits he'd shoot ugly score at PGA Championship
Catching up with his CBS colleagues ahead of Round 4, Nantz gave an honest admission of where his game currently stands at age 66.
"Playing the same tees? I truly don't think I would break 100 and I'm not just being self-deprecating here," Nantz said. "I don't have any length anymore, I'd have difficulty on the carries and the greens would torture me. So I think if I could shoot under 100 I would be very happy."
Jim Nantz comments on losing Chiefs-Bills to NBC in 2026
In an interview with SI's Jimmy Traina, CBS' lead voice admitted he had a "sinking feeling" after learning a rival network was going to broadcast Chiefs-Bills on Thanksgiving this season - a game normally reserved for he and partner Tony Romo.
"That's the rivalry of its time. But, you know, you're not gonna get it every year. So, I'm OK with it," Nantz admitted. "I have faith we're going to get a very good schedule. I kind of had a sinking feeling that one of these years somebody else was gonna get the chance to have that great matchup. It's OK."
"I know, for example, that Denver is gonna have a very, very attractive schedule. There's a game that, again, going on the old basis of traveling with the AFC team, I know there's a Denver game at San Francisco. I'd love to have that," he added. "I haven't done a game in that stadium."
Nantz and Romo will instead handle an all-NFC matchup on Thanksgiving Day when they call Bears-Lions - a great game in its own right.
