Jonas Brodin's Status Update Emerges Before Wild-Avalanche Game 5

The Minnesota Wild head back to Denver trailing 3-1 in their second-round series against the Colorado Avalanche, facing elimination in Game 5 at Ball Arena.

Minnesota suffered a Game 4 blow, losing 5-2 after bouncing back with a strong performance in Game 3, in which they beat the Avs 5-1 on Saturday to cut the series deficit in half.

In addition to the bad result, injuries have continued to impact Minnesota's lineup throughout the series, making it harder for the Wild to use their strongest lineup against the Avalanche.

One of the most notable absences has been on defense, where Jonas Brodin has not played during the second round, last appearing in a game back on Apr. 28 against the Dallas Stars. On Tuesday, a new update confirmed Brodin's status for Game 5.

According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, Brodin has not travelled with the rest of the team to Colorado and will miss Game 5.

The 32-year-old defenseman is dealing with a lower-body injury and has now been unavailable for the entire series against the Avalanche. His absence extends to a sixth consecutive game, removing a key piece from Minnesota's defensive group.

Brodin recorded one assist and averaged significant ice time against the Stars in the first round before suffering the injury.

Minnesota players acknowledged the impact of losing both Brodin and fellow injured center Joel Eriksson Ek ahead of the Game 5 trip.

"We're doing our best to keep lasting here and buying those guys time to come back, but I mean, you're never going to replace guys like that," forward Marcus Foligno said.

With their season on the line, the Wild will attempt to extend the series in Game 5, scheduled for Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
