Martin City Brewing Co. is getting crafty

In mid-February,Martin City Brewing Co. expanded its “Cheers”-like pub operation to include a microbrewery. The Pub opened in 2011 offering 18 beers on tap and 50-plus bottles, as well as an upscale bar food menu by former EBT sous chef Andrew Parker featuring a mighty fine mac ’n’ cheese.

Bluestem celebrates 10 years, closes March 30 for a major renovation

On Saturday night, Bluestem owners Colby and Megan Garrelts plan to mark the restaurant’s 10th anniversary with a $100 per person party featuring the first tasting menu served when they opened on March 15, 2004. Then, at the end of brunch service on March 30, Bluestem will close to undergo major renovations. The Westport restaurant is scheduled to reopen May 2.

Ça Va champagne bar in Westport is on the bubble

Wil Jenny’s closing in south Overland Park

The restaurant opened nearly eight years ago at 6700 W. 135th St. But the owners want to concentrate on expanding their Nick & Jake’s concept. A Nick & Jake’s is set to open next month just south of the Country Club Plaza.

City Market’s The Bite opens Friday

The new City Market restaurant plans to open at 10:30 a.m. Friday at 23 E. Third St. It will have about a dozen signature toasted sandwiches, build-your-own tamales, and gourmet ice cream sandwiches.

Blanc Burgers + Bottles returns to Westport

Blanc Burgers + Bottles plans to reopen in Westport next week. Aaron Mulder, corporate executive chef for Circle Restaurant Group, parent company of Blanc, said the new restaurant is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. Monday.

Snow & Co. wins national restaurant contest

Snow & Co., artful frozen cocktails, will get $15,000 in design services and $25,000 in equipment for its new Gladstone location. Tundra Restaurant Supply, Boulder, Colo., held the 2nd Annual Dreamstaurant Contest. A panel of in-house judges selected seven companies from hundreds of entries across the country and then asked for online votes.

SmokeShack BBQ in North Kansas City closes ‘indefinitely’

North Kansas City’s barbecue showdown may be over. Less than a year after opening at 900 Swift Ave., SmokeShack BBQ has closed. A sign on the door read, “Good Folks. We are closed indefinitely. Thank you for a great 10 months! … The reasons for closing had nothing to do with you — you were the BEST!”
