Letter of the Week: Guns, abortion and saving lives

Missouri Sen. Will Kraus, a Lee’s Summit Republican, supported a law that requires a three-day waiting period for women wanting abortions. The stated purpose was that the extra time to consider the decision might give the woman time to change her mind and save a life.

However, Sen. Kraus and the majority of politicians in Jefferson City refuse to even consider a bill that would require a background check and waiting period for purchasers of firearms at gun shows. That gun could end up taking the life of the child he was trying to save.

How do we elect people who think like that? How many of our children and grandchildren need to be killed by guns before the politicians do something?

Now Sen. Kraus wants to run for secretary of state in 2016. Know where the candidates stand on critical issues when you go to the polls.

Tom Goddard, of Lake Tapawingo, has lived in Missouri all of his life. He retired in 2003 as director of athletics with the Blue Springs School District. He also was with the Raytown School District for 22 years. He is married and has five children and 10 grandchildren.
