The Star’s recommendations for Tuesday’s election. Two Missouri House vacancies and Independence sales tax renewals on tap
As you may have heard, Kansas City is having a parade on Tuesday.
Less well known is that certain parts of Kansas City and Jackson County are having elections. And with polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., voters will have plenty of opportunity to help decide some important political contests plus two sales tax issues in Independence, while still catching the Kansas City Royals celebratory parade at noon.
Here are The Star’s recommendations in selected races:
Rory Rowland, Democrat, for Missouri state representative, District 29. This is a special election for a vacated seat representing much of central Independence and parts of south Kansas City.
DaRon McGee, Democrat, for Missouri state representative, District 36. This is a special election for a vacated seat in south Kansas City.
Matthew Oates for the Sub-District 2 school board seat of the Kansas City Public Schools. The race is to fill a vacant seat.
Yes on Question 1, to renew the one-eighth of 1 percent sales tax to improve and maintain police services in Independence.
Yes on Question 2, to renew the one-eighth of 1 percent sales tax to improve and maintain fire services in Independence.
