Jackson County prosecutors on Friday accused a 25-year-old man of deliberately, fatally shooting another man in the head outside a nightclub Sunday.

Prosecutors charged Luis Miguel Murillo-Rosales, of Kansas City, Kan., with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Ludy Cruz, 41, outside the Smuggler’s Inn off Interstate 435 south of the Missouri River. Cruz’ funeral was Friday. His obituary said he was to be buried in Honduras.

A witness told police Murillo-Rosales and Cruz argued in the club for about 10 minutes before it escalated into a fight. The witness broke up the fight and Murillo-Rosales left the club. Later, about 2:30 a.m., Murillo-Rosales allegedly approached Cruz in the parking lot, shot him and ran into a wooded area.

Murillo-Rosales called a friend for a ride to a home in Kansas City, Kan. Police later found a 9 mm gun in Murillo-Rosales’ bedroom that matched a shell casing found at the murder scene, according to court records.
