Missouri law doesn’t limit what, or how much, a lobbyist can give to elected officials. And that’s led to hundreds of thousands of dollars spent every year on freebies to lawmakers.
Total spending on gifts from lobbyists to Missouri lawmakers is on the decline, down from a peak of $753,670 in the first six months of 2013 to $347,368 during the same period this year. But the freebies aren’t going away anytime soon.
The Star has compiled lobbyist gift data from the Missouri Ethics Commission. Search below to see how much your state representative or senator has taken from lobbyists going back to 2012.
