Kansas State campus receives ‘all clear’ after lockdown Friday morning
The Kansas State University campus in Manhattan was locked down for four hours Friday morning.
The university said in an alert that the lockdown was ordered after someone who was “possibly armed” was spotted on the south side of campus.
“Officers are continuing to search for the possibly armed subject,” the alert sent Friday morning stated. “Please stay inside and lock your doors until further notice.”
“No classes until we receive all clear from @KStatePolice,” Kansas State president Kirk Schulz said on Twitter.
The Riley County Police Department said on its website that it received three reports of men approaching people in central Manhattan and demanding property. In two of the reports, the suspects were armed, the website said.
Police chased a possible suspect who was last seen running onto the K-State campus, the website said.
K-State police searched buildings and areas on campus where the suspect was seen, the school’s website said. No suspect was located and police determined that the suspect had left the area.
The “all clear” notice came at 8:26 a.m. Classes and work resumed at 9:30 a.m., the university said on its website.
Manhattan Christian College was also on lockdown, due to the situation at K-State, the school’s website said. It also said classes resumed at 9:30 a.m.
