UA sorority criticized for lack of diversity in recruitment video

Two years after the Crimson White exposed racist recruiting practices by sororities at the University of Alabama, Alabama sorority Alpha Phi has drawn criticism for a video showing a lack of diversity and excessive objectification of its members.

The controversy started with an opinion piece of Al.com that called the video "so racially and aesthetically homogeneous and forced, so hyper-feminine, so reductive and objectifying, so Stepford Wives: College Edition."

The sorority has since deleted the video from YouTube, changed their Twitter and Facebook accounts to private and stopped responding to requests for comment from the media.

This year's pledge class at Alabama included 2,261 women, 214 of which were minorities. University officials also said they will stop releasing pledge statistics for "safety reasons."
