A disturbance in the Force: Mark Hamill slap-fights Ted Cruz and Donald Trump Jr.
In a galaxy far, far away, aliens watched in disbelief over the weekend as a U.S. senator (Ted Cruz) — with an assist from a first son (Donald Trump Jr.) — fought with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
The Jedi fired the first salvo in a Twitter battle that managed to enrage a lot of “Star Wars” fans on Hamill’s behalf.
It happened on the opening weekend of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which scored the second-biggest opening ever in North America.
On Saturday Hamill called out Federal Communications Chairman Ajit Pai for wielding a lightsaber to the “Star Wars” theme in a video mocking opponents of the FCC’s repeal of net neutrality.
“This did not sit well with Hamill, the first person to wield a lightsaber onscreen, and so he tweeted about it,” noted Slate.
Ajit, you are not worthy to be a Jedi, Hamill tweaked.
“Cute video Ajit “Aren’t I Precious?” Pai -but you are profoundly unworthy 2 wield a lightsaber-A Jedi acts selflessly for the common man-NOT lie 2 enrich giant corporations. Btw-did you pay John Williams his royalty? @AjitPaiFCCorpShill #AJediYouAreNOT,” Hamill tweeted.

Cruz, who apparently had some free time on his hands, then engaged his thrusters.
He tweeted at Hamill, making the fatal Twitter error of misspelling the actor’s name.
“.@HammillHimself Luke, I know Hollywood can be confusing, but it was Vader who supported govt power over everything said & done on the Internet. That’s why giant corps (Google, Facebook, Netflix) supported the FCC power grab of net neutrality. Reject the dark side: Free the net!Luke, I know Hollywood can be confusing, but it was Vader who supported govt power over everything said & done on the Internet. That’s why giant corps (Google, Facebook, Netflix) supported the FCC power grab of net neutrality. Reject the dark side: Free the net!”
The tweet found its target.
Cue that humming lightsaber sound.
“Thanks for smarm-spaining it to me @tedcruz I know politics can be confusing, but you’d have more credibility if you spelled my name correctly. I mean IT’S RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU! Maybe you’re just distracted from watching porn at the office again,” Hamill fired back.
You’ll never live this down. You got owned by Luke-f**ing-Skywalker.

But Cruz shot back.
“Yes, that’s it. So sorry to misspell your name. Respond not with facts, but with anger. Who was it that said, “Fear is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate”?
“Rather than insults, try civil discussion of facts. Fact 1: until 2015, the FCC had NO authority over Internet. The Net grew free & unregulated. Fact 2: W/ “net neutrality” the FCC declared power to regulate everything said & done on Internet. That’s really bad for freedom.”

Spoiler alert.
Donald Trump Jr. was watching, too.
He weighed in by declaring Luke Skywalker (fictional character) dead at the hands of Ted Cruz (real person).
Wait. What?
“Ted Cruz kills Luke Skywalker part 1 #starwars”
“Ted Cruz kills Luke Skywalker again... Jedi apparently no match for facts.”

Vice noted how the virtual smackdown “eventually petered out after Hamill, with typical Luke-like sagacity, just stepped away from the whole mess. The lesson here? Ted Cruz should know not to lecture Luke Skywalker about the Dark Side.”
Trump Jr. and Cruz were apparently hanging out together in Texas over the weekend when this all went down. Trump posted a mocking Instagram photo of the two men with a cookie decorated with what was supposed to be President Obama’s face.
Obi-Wan Kenobi really is our only hope.
