Cleveland rocks, in low-key style, for the Republican National Convention

First impressions of Cleveland?

Pretty low key.

Any signs on Sunday that this city by the lake is hosting a major-party national political convention were hard to come by.

The airport featured an impressive lineup of guides who were offering help to those stepping off planes. But absent were crowds waiting for rental cars or packing downtown streets.

Also missing were the expected giant images of Donald Trump here, there and everywhere. Cardboard cutouts of the real estate mogul? Nowhere in sight. Billboards? Nope. Giant photos on buses or cabs? Not there either.

Even at the Kansas delegation hotel in nearby Beachwood, Ohio, Trump facsimiles were hard to come by. The only evidence that Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee came on the canvass goodie bags Kansas delegates were given as they arrived.

Printed on the side of each bag was a single word: “Trump.”
