Secret PAC behind anti-Brunner ad claims ‘wrong number’ when reached by phone at Kansas office
Controversy may soon grow over a new ad in the Missouri governor’s race, and the secretive political action committee behind it.
The ad aired from something called LG PAC. Its funding sources aren’t clear, and there was no registration of a committee by that name with the Missouri Ethics Commission on Monday.
There is an LG PAC registered with the FEC in Washington. The committee opened for business in mid-May. Its treasurer and custodian of records is Richard Monsees, with an address on 83rd St. in Prairie Village, Kansas.
A phone call to the number listed on the FEC disclosure brought a quick reponse. “You’ve got the wrong number,” the respondent said, before hanging up.
The ad criticizes John Brunner, one of the GOP candidates. We can’t find a clean copy of the spot.
But Brunner’s campaign is angry. “It’s no surprise that John Brunner is being targeted by special interests with flat-out lies,” the campaign statement said. “John is the only candidate who can't be bought and who is not looking to start, extend or jump-start a political career.”The ads are rolling out in Missouri’s GOP governor’s primary.
