Heavies kick in another $170K for Missouri tax — aiding streetcar project they’ve fought in the past
The strangeness continues...
Monday, the Heavy Constructors’ Industry Advancement Fund dropped another $170,000 into the kitty for the Missouri transportation sales tax hike on the August ballot.
Since mid-February, the Heavies have contributed $590,000 to Missourians for Safe Transportation and New Jobs.
For decades, the Heavies have opposed various fixed-rail transit ballot measures in Kansas City. Yet if the sales tax passes, $100 million of the revenue will pay for the streetcar expansion proposal.
In essence, the Heavies are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to pass a tax that will pay for part of a project they’ve bitterly opposed in the past.
