A coalition of elected African Americans has recommended two more names to Gov. Jay Nixon for appointment as state auditor.
In a news release the coalition endorsed Gail McCann Beatty of Kansas City and Celeste Metcalf, an official with the state Department of Administration.
The names join Willie Epps on the list of potential African-American appointees to the post. Former Kansas City councilman Kelvin Simmons has also been mentioned.
Pressure is growing on Nixon to appoint a minority to the job. No African American has ever held statewide elected office in Missouri.
The former auditor, Tom Schweich, committed suicide.
