A Joplin businessman and leading GOP donor stepped forward with a sworn affidavit Thursday alleging that the new chairman of the Missouri GOP told him that former state Auditor Tom Schweich was Jewish.
In the affidavit, David Humphreys said Hancock told him in November that, “Well, you know he (Schweich) is Jewish?”
Humphreys also said this in the affidavit:
“The meaning I took from Mr. Hancock’s statements and tone of his remarks was clear: He (Tom Schweich) is Jewish – in case you didn’t know – and that being Jewish is a negative attribute for Tom Schweich’s gubernatorial race.”
Schweich complained bitterly of Hancock’s actions before he fatally shot himself last month.
Hancock, who was elected chairman at a party meeting in Kansas City, has denied making any anti-Semetic remarks to anyone.
