The University of Missouri-Columbia is having trouble recruiting students after the racial protests of November 2015. New administrators are taking over at that campus, at Kansas State University and at the University of Kansas.
And college campuses in the region continue to be flashpoints of controversy over perceptions of political correctness at its most extreme, pressure from conservative lawmakers to move higher education toward the political center and students just looking to get a degree without going broke.
