Charges filed in Leawood traffic crash that killed Overland Park couple
A 36-year-old Independence man has been charged with causing the deaths of an Overland Park couple in a July traffic crash in Leawood.
Harold Benton Cyphers III was allegedly driving under the influence and ran a red light, killing 69-year-old Donna Manning and critically injuring her 71-year-old husband, William Manning, on July 3.
William Manning died at a hospital on July 20.
The wreck occurred at 119th Street and State Line Road as the Mannings were headed to church.
Cyphers is charged in Johnson County District Court with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, identity theft, felony theft, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and running a red light.
He was on probation at the time of the crash and has been in custody since the wreck for an alleged probation violation.
Johnson County prosecutors announced the new charges Tuesday.
