Man dies after early morning shooting in Kansas City; teen wounded

Kansas City recorded its 40th homicide of the year Sunday morning with the death of a man shot in the head in an earlier incident that sent a wounded teenager to the hospital.

Police arrived about 4 a.m. at Ninth and Jefferson streets, where the two people were shot. One, a man in his late 20s, died later at a hospital. A male teenager was treated for a hand wound and was released.

Witnesses told police there were many people in the park drinking and partying when a man in his mid-20s shot the victim.

The suspect is believed to have fired shots later Sunday morning at 11th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, according to a tweet by police Chief Darryl Forté. No one was injured in the second shooting, Forté said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
