Police make arrest in Overland Park homicide
Overland Park police said Wednesday they had arrested a suspect in the New Year’s Eve slaying of Steven L. Sawyer.
DeMario D. Thompson, 19, was arrested on a Johnson County warrant for first-degree murder and was being held on a $1 million bond, police said.
Sawyer, 49, was shot to death on New Year’s Eve morning when he went outside to warm his car in the 9200 block of West 83rd Terrace. Witnesses said they heard shouting and gunfire.
The arrest was made in Missouri with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
