New sex crime alleged against former worker at Leavenworth VA medical center

Leavenworth County prosecutors on Friday filed a new felony sex charge against a former employee at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leavenworth.

Mark E. Wisner, who was free on bond on similar charges, was taken back into custody Friday after a $50,000 bond was set on the new charge of aggravated sexual battery.

Wisner, 65, of Horton, Kan., a former physician assistant, now is charged in Leavenworth County District Court with aggravated sexual battery, aggravated criminal sodomy and three counts of sexual battery.

The allegations involve medical center patients seen by Wisner before he resigned last year.

Several civil lawsuits have also been filed alleging that Wisner touched patients inappropriately on multiple occasions.

His trial on the criminal charges is scheduled for late October, but his attorney withdrew from the case Friday, and it was uncertain if the trial would be delayed.
