Driver is cited for running red light, crashing into KC streetcar

Police have ticketed an 18-year-old Johnson County man accused of failing to stop for a red traffic signal and crashing broadside into a Kansas City streetcar.

Dylan Cline allegedly was driving east on Truman Road just after 6 p.m. Thursday when his Nissan Altima struck the streetcar, which was northbound on Main Street.

Police ticketed Cline for failing to obey a traffic control device. He is scheduled to appear in Kansas City Municipal Court on July 27, according to court records.

The streetcar stopped for a red light at Truman Road, then continued north on Main after the signal turned green, video from the streetcar shows. Investigators reviewed the video that showed the Nissan ran a red light.

The ticket showed that Cline lives in Shawnee.

The impact sent small amounts of debris flying. There were 10 passengers inside the streetcar. The Nissan, which had heavy front-end damage, carried five people.

No injuries were reported.

Cline said last week he thought his light was green and was surprised to see the streetcar cross his path. He had come downtown with his girlfriend to see a Tech N9ne concert, he said.
