Former VA police officer in KC charged with sexually abusing two children
A former police officer for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Kansas City has been charged with sexually abusing two girls in Mission.
Sean M. Acree, 38, of Mission, is charged in Johnson County District Court with five felony counts, including aggravated indecent liberties with a child and indecent liberties.
The charges involve instances of “lewd fondling or touching” that allegedly occurred in Mission between July 2009 and December 2015.
The charges are unrelated to his employment.
A spokesman said Acree had been a training sergeant for the Veterans Affairs police but resigned his position in April.
Acree was booked into the Johnson County jail Monday and was being held on a bond of $250,000.
He made an initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 12.
Earlier this year, the mother of the two alleged victims filed a civil protection order in Johnson County after the older of the two girls told her that Acree had begun molesting her when she was 12.
In a protection order request, the woman said she was concerned for the safety of herself and her daughters because Acree is a police officer and there are guns “at his disposal.”
