Guilty plea in abuse death of 2-year-old Kansas City boy

A Kansas City man has pleaded guilty in the child abuse killing of a 2-year-old boy, Jackson County prosecutors said Wednesday.

Mirsad Hamidovic, 24, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Jackson County District Court to second degree murder in the January 2015 death of Lorenzo Orozco-Estrada.

Hamidovic, whose trial had been set for next week, also pleaded guilty to a charge of child abuse or neglect.

As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Kansas City police found Lorenzo badly injured on Jan. 9, 2015, inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Washington Street. Hamidovic was watching the boy while his mother worked.

The boy died at a hospital the next night from head and brain injuries caused by blunt force trauma.
