Profiles of the victims in shootings in KCK and mid-Missouri
A shooting late Monday killed four men in Kansas City, Kan., and another man was killed later near New Florence, Mo. Here are profiles of the victims:

Michael Capps, 41, was a father to two sons, ages 7 and 3, and was known in his neighborhood for working on cars. Many knew him by the nickname Chainsaw because he collected them. Capps had worked in an auto body repair shop for about seven years.
He spent much of his early life in the Turner neighborhood of Kansas City, Kan., and remained close with his childhood friends. Later, Capps moved into a house in the 3000 block of South 36th Street, about a mile from his parents, whom he visited frequently. Family friends described Capps as a man with a big heart who had risen above a tough childhood and become an “armor-plated marshmallow.”

Clint Harter, 27, was married with a 2-year-old daughter. His wife, Ruth, was eight months pregnant when Harter died. Harter attended Turner High School and was a cashier at KFC, where he worked overtime to provide for his family.
Harter was known for helping to take care of his brother Austin and their mother. Harter and his brother Austin had made friends with Michael Capps through their shared love of working on cars.

Kansas City, Kan.
Austin Harter, 29, attended Turner High School and later worked as a handyman in Kansas City, Kan. Neighbors and friends of the Harter family called Austin Harter a “tub of love.”
He was especially close to his brother Clint Harter. Services for both brothers will be Monday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan.

Miami County, Kan.
Jeremy Waters, who was known as Jake, had sons ages 10, 12 and 14. He was raised in Miami County.
Waters, 36, worked in construction and was remembered as a good employee by Bruce Siebert, owner of Quality One Stucco.
“He was sharp,” Siebert said. “He was a good, hard worker.”
Miles Story, a co-worker and friend, said Waters was devoted to his sons and generous with others.
“There have been times where I was broke and he loaned me money to pay my bills,” Story said. “He was a really good man.”

New Florence, Mo.
Randy Nordman, 49, lived with his wife, Julie, at their New Florence home, where the couple were building a campground and racetrack for radio-controlled cars. The business, Empire of Dirt R/C Park & Campground, had not yet opened when Nordman died.
Nordman had worked for years as a machinist. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and attending stock car races, where he sometimes was at the finish line, waving the checkered flag.
