3-year-old Kansas City girl shot in abdomen

Kansas City police are investigating the apparent accidental shooting of a 3-year-old Kansas City girl Wednesday afternoon.

The girl was shot in the abdomen and was undergoing surgery at a hospital but is expected to survive, police said.

Initial indications were that the girl either shot herself or was shot by a 4-year-old sibling, according to police.

The incident was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 3800 block of Chestnut Avenue.

Police said a number of adults were in the residence at the time and are being questioned by detectives.
