Homicide investigation underway in Overland Park
The man shot to death in Overland Park Wednesday morning has been identified as 49-year-old Steven L. Sawyer.
Overland Park police said that Sawyer was killed just after 6 a.m. outside his home in the 9200 block of W. 83rd Terrace, just west of Shawnee Mission West High School.
Witnesses told police that Sawyer had gone outside to warm up his car, when they heard shouting and several gunshots.
When police arrived they found Sawyer dead in the street. Some witnesses reported hearing a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.
Detectives are now investigating and police ask anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
