Former Merriam official is accused of stealing gas
The former public works director for Merriam has been charged with official misconduct and stealing fuel.
Randall Lee Carroll of Olathe was released on $2,500 bond. His first appearance in Johnson County District Court is scheduled for Dec. 31.
According to a court document, Carroll stole fuel belonging to the city of Merriam from Oct. 1, 2014, to Sept. 3, 2015.
The Merriam City Council voted unanimously in executive session on Sept. 3 to fire Carroll, who had been with the city 34 years. Mayor Ken Sissom at the time described Carroll as an “excellent public works employee” but said he could no longer be employed by the city.
