Kansas City police investigated two homicides Saturday.

About 3 p.m., officers found a man shot to death in a vehicle in the 600 block of Elmwood Avenue. Police said it appeared the man had been shot hours before.

Earlier Saturday, a person was found shot to death behind a home in the 2900 block of Prospect Avenue. Police said it was unclear when the shooting had occurred.

The killings counted as the eighth and ninth homicides of the week, bringing the total for the year to 106.

It was the eighth time in 10 years homicides have topped 100, after the city experienced a 23 percent drop last year.

Police asked anyone with information about Saturday’s homicides to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
