Names of 100th and 101st KC homicide victims are released

Two men shot to death Monday evening in the 7300 block of Wabash Avenue have been identified by police as Gerrod H. Woods, 23, and Fanandous B. Groves, 23.

Both were Kansas City residents.

The shootings occurred about 9 p.m. Monday when a vehicle pulled up next to a parked car on Wabash Avenue. Someone began shooting at Woods, Groves and a third man inside the parked car, police said.

Woods jumped out and ran but was struck by gunfire. He died at the scene. Groves and the third victim drove to a nearby hospital, where Groves died.

Police have not said what prompted the shooting. The slayings were the city’s 100th and 101st homicides of the year. The city recorded 81 last year, including four added to the list after the year ended.
