Officers responding to assault call fatally shoot Versailles, Mo., man
Sheriff’s deputies in Morgan County, Mo., and Versailles police officers shot and killed 41-year-old man Wednesday after responding to a call of an assault in progress, the Missouri Highway Patrol said Thursday.
According to a news release, the law enforcement officers were called to a home in the 18500 block of Second Street when they confronted Randall Roden, 41, who they say had assaulted another individual.
Officers shocked Roden twice with a stun gun, trying to restrain him, but Roden fired “multiple rounds” from a pistol at the officers, the release said. One round struck a deputy, resulting in minor injuries. The officers then returned fire, killing Roden.
An autopsy is scheduled. The patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating.
Versailles is in central Missouri, about 105 miles southeast of Kansas City.
