Criminal charges are filed in fatal shooting in south Kansas City
A 37-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a man he accused of sleeping with his wife.
Christopher S. Deboe faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges in the Sept. 5 death of 45-year-old Sherrill Collins.
According to court records, police sent to the 7400 block of East 118th Terrace to investigate a shooting saw Deboe on the front porch. He told them the victim was inside. Officers found Collins on a couch, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Deboe allegedly told officers that he took a gun away from Collins and shot him. Deboe also said that when he got out of prison, he heard the victim was sleeping with his wife.
After the shooting, Deboe dialed 911 and reported, “Somebody just got shot.”
After the call taker asked a follow-up question, Deboe said, “Yeah, this guy just came in whatever, he had a gun whatever, we started fighting.”
Prosecutors requested that bond be set at $300,000.
